Susan Horovitz Maurer is an A.V. rated member of the Florida Bar. She became a partner in Panza, Maurer & Maynard, P.A. in 1984, and assumed responsibilities as Managing Partner in 1994. Her extensive legal background is in litigation with an emphasis in regulatory and administrative work. Her primary practice areas have been in healthcare and academic law.
Mrs. Maurer has represented acute care chains and specialty care providers on issues of licensure, reimbursement and fraud and abuse. She has developed and implemented corporate-wide compliance plans for public and private entities and has served as an advisor to for-profit corporate compliance committees. For more than 25 years, she has provided advice and counsel to academic institutions, both public and private. She is a member of the Florida Bar and admitted to practice in both state and federal courts. As a Commercial Arbitrator with the American Arbitration Association, Mrs. Maurer has arbitrated multiple health care, insurance and commercial matters. Mrs. Maurer is currently a Commissioner with the Florida Commission on Ethics.
Susan Horovitz Maurer is a native Floridian. Raised in Miami, she earned her B.A. from Emory University and her J.D. from Nova Southeastern University Shepard Broad Law School in 1980. Her experience includes work for the United States Senate Committee on Governmental Affairs, the City of Miami Legal Department, adjunct faculty and General Counsel for Nova Southeastern University, General Counsel for the Community Mental Health Center, Inc., General Counsel for the Florida Workers’ Compensation Insurance Guarantee Association, Board Member of Institutional Review Board for Nova Southeastern University, Assistant General Counsel for Broward Principals and Assistants Association, and pro bono legal counsel for the American Lung Association, South Florida. She was appointed by the Governor to serve statewide on the Community Hospital Education Council.
Mrs. Maurer is a member of the Florida Bar and admitted to practice in both state and federal courts. As a Commercial Arbitrator with the American Arbitration Association, Mrs. Maurer has arbitrated multiple health care, insurance and commercial matters. Mrs. Maurer is also a member of the Broward County Bar Association, and the Administrative Law and General Practice Solo and Small Firm Sections of The Florida Bar, as well as the American Health Lawyers Association (AHLA) and the National Association of College and University Attorneys (NACUA). She serves the firm as Managing Partner.
Mrs. Maurer has focused on health care law since 1986. She has represented acute care chains and specialty care providers on issues of licensure, reimbursement and fraud and abuse. Mrs. Maurer has developed and implemented corporate-wide compliance plans for public and private entities and has served as an advisor to for-profit corporate compliance committees. She has successfully mediated multi-million dollar Office of the Inspector General and U.S. Attorney investigations on behalf of health care providers.
Mrs. Maurer has an extensive background in academic law, having represented educational institutions and educators, public and private. For more than 25 years, she has provided advice and counsel on issues include Admissions Standards, GME, Student Loans, Labor and Employment and Title IX.
Mrs. Maurer lectures on topics including compliance, health care fraud and abuse, forensic psychology, labor and employment issues, and admissions and dismissal practices in higher education.
Mrs. Maurer lives in Broward County, Florida, is married to Laurence Maurer, Esquire and has two children. She currently serves on the Boards of the American Lung Association South Area as Advisory Board President. She also serves as Regional Advisory Board Member for the American Lung Association Southeast, covering Florida, Georgia and South Carolina. Mrs. Maurer is a Board member of the Fort Lauderdale Historical Society, and a Scarlet member of American Heart Association “Go Red for Women” campaign. She is a member of the President’s Advisory Council at Nova Southeastern University, the Florida Bar Fellows, and the Fort Lauderdale Museum of Art. She is a past Board Member of Temple Bat Yam of East Fort Lauderdale and the Women’s Executive Club.
